Rufus: in the web of lies

Information:

Name: Rufus

Gender: M

Age: d-o-b: ~mid-2013

Size: small (8kg, 30cm)

Others: dewormed, vaccinated, castrated

Story, Personality, Others:
Rufus was found abandoned in the road in October 2014. We found a home for him in February 2015. We brought him to his new home and left him there. We hoped he would be loved.
Weeks passed and no news came. So we asked. Then we got a reply, everything was ok. And this was like this for months: the adoptant never volunteered any news and never sent any pictures. We asked regularly but getting the news was like pulling teeth. Always long time without a reply and finally: yes, he is fine. No pictures. What also worried us, was that the adoptant was quite active on facebook, posting lots of things and stories from her life but never ever anything about the dog. We felt that Rufus was not loved in this home.
In every email to her we reassured her that if anything would go wrong, we would be ready to take him back. We felt it would come to that one day.
In September the adoptant said she was moving to the UK and she was taking Rufus with her and already had the passport made.
But as if by coincidence, she blocked on facebook the DOP person responsible for adoptions so she could not see her updates anymore. This seemed very strange but when asked the woman said that she stopped using facebook and closed down her account. A lie but an easy lie to verify….
In October the adoptant posted Rufus on facebook for adoption. She was moving to the UK two weeks later and was looking for a home for him. The DOP person was blocked on facebook so she could not see the post. But facebook community is tight and common “friends” passed the news.
Needless to say, it is not possible to rehome and adult mutt in 2 weeks in Portugal…. Hundreds of unwanted dogs like him spend years in the shelters….
This woman preferred to risk the dog’s well being, probably leave him on the street when leaving the country instead of just bringing him to safety to the organization that had cared for him and that had reassured her many times that he could come back? Why? Really, why?
It took some effort for us to bring Rufus back to us but we had help. Someone took him from her but asked why she did not contact the shelter he came from and the adoptant said that she did but we refused to take him back. Another lie.
And here he is. Shame on her.

Rufus is a lovely dog and he does not deserve how he was treated. He is friendly, always happy, always wagging his tail. He is nice to other dogs and cats. He lived with a cat but the cat has to be self confident, if a cat runs way, Rufus will run after.
He walks well on the leash. He is calm in the car. Simply an uncomplicated lovely dog.

Noel: that was a long way to get there….

Information:

Name: Noel

Gender: M

Age: d-o-b: ~mid-2014

Size: medium (16kg, 45cm)

Others: dewormed, vaccinated, castrated

Story, Personality, Others:
Noel was found near the shelter, just before Christmas 2014, this is why we called him Noel. His skin was terrible…. He was nearly bare, most of his fur gone, obviously due to some skin disease and the naked skin burned by the sun.
He has gone through long, lasting many months treatment. He was taking antibiotic, he got Bravecto pills against parasites, he got Advocate, he got a bath with special shampoo once a week for many months.
And finally after 10 months we can say that his skin is nearly good. There is still some fur loss but it is growing. Noel is a fighter.
And he is also such a nice dog. Social, friendly, walks well on the leash, playful. He does not like cats but he loves other dogs.
