Mandy: when people at home don’t think

Information:

Name: Mandy

Gender: F

Age: d-o-b: 28 April 2018

Breed: x cocker (the mother is cross cocker spaniel)

Size: will be medium

Others: dewormed, vaccinated

Story:
A woman had at home a female and a male dog. They had puppies. She was surprised. She said she never had female dogs before. (She did not think a female dog can get pregnant? We did not ask if she has children. Maybe not. As it was the neighbour that brought the puppies).
So the puppies are off to the shelter. We were promised the dogs will get neutered but people promise everything when they want to dump dogs in the shelter.
The mother is a medium size cross cocker spaniel so there could be some cocker in them.
Mandy is the last one left. She is gentle, social and nice.

Beni: he is a fighter!

Information:

Name: Beni

Gender: M

Breed: Portuguese podengo

Age: D-o-b June 2015

Size: medium (15kg, 50cm)

Others: dewormed, vaccinated

Story, Personality, Others:
Beni had a home but it was just a place where dogs were kept in the garden and left to their own devices. Not even fed if it was not for the neighbours. One day Beni stopped walking but his owner was not going to do anything so the neighbour convinced him to surrender the dog. And this is how he came to the shelter.
He was completely paralysed on his back legs. He was taken to the vet and diagnosed with polyradiculoneuritis: acute paralysis due to the inflammation of nerves. Serious but treatable.
He got a combination of medication and daily exercises in the physiotherapy centre. After a week we could already note improvement. After 4 weeks he was like new. It is amazing to look at him now. He walks and runs as if nothing has ever happened.
Moreover… he is such a happy dog! He always wags his tail. He loves being with people – he follows, he asks for cuddles, he looks as if he was smiling. Good on the leash. Very nice with other dogs. A really lovely dog!

Lila: she is a fighter!

Information:

Name: Lila

Gender: F

Age: D-o-b April 2016

Size: small (5.5kg, 40cm)

Others: dewormed, vaccinated, sterilised

Story, Personality, Others:
Lovely Lila was found hit by a car with broken leg. Someone took her to the vet and she had a chip. Her owner was contacted but he did not want to hear as he had already gave her to someone else. This new person was contacted and they also did not want her. Poor Lila… for them she could die.
With the help of generous people and even more generous vet her treatment was secured. Her fracture was quite complicated. She was operated and then she spend two months in the clinic doing physiotherapy. Now she is nearly like new. She walks and runs although she still lifts her back leg when she runs. But it is only a question of time for her to start feeling comfortable about that leg again.
Lila is a real sweetie. She is very gentle, very friendly, very nice towards people and other dogs. She is also used to cats. A lovely little girl that will have her happy ending, we hope.
