Honey: the only one that was not scared

Information:

Name: Honey

Gender: F

Age: d-o-b: January 2016

Size: medium (18kg, 45cm)

Others: dewormed, vaccinated

Story:
Honey comes from a waste land from which we had 6 adults and 18 puppies rescued. She is the mum of the 12 puppies we brought.
The dogs were living there, starving and scared and people were turning a blind eye or chasing them away. All dogs we brought from there, including the puppies, are shy and scared.
Honey is the only one that is not. She still trusts people.
Hard to imagine.
But maybe once long time ago someone treated her well. Maybe she had a loving home. Maybe she was loved.
She is gentle, trustful, social, friendly. She wags her tail. She is good with other dogs. She walks well on the leash.
All the bad things that happened to her when she lived on this waste land, she forgot and forgave. Surely she needs a living home now?

Conny: packs of starving puppies living behind the train station, people turn blind eye every day

Information:

Name: Conny

Gender: F

Age: d-o-b: 1 August 2018

Size: will be medium

Others: dewormed, vaccinated

Story:
Long story…. Packs of dogs living on the streets, no one is doing anything. People see them every day. Authorities don’t have a plan. More and more dogs as they reproduce.
One example. In Coina someone identified 18 dogs in an empty zone behind the train station. Adults and puppies. They live next to road, starve, have puppies, puppies have puppies. Last time there were 6 adults and 12 puppies. If you leave them there, there will be more puppies in half a year. But no one is doing anything. It is no one’s obligation really.
One person wanted to do something. She asked for help to Cantinho da Milu. An overcrowded shelter. But what is the other solution? Leaving those dogs on the street? The authorities will not do anything. Soon there will be 50 dogs not 18. They have to be brought to safety.
So they were. Scared dogs, afraid of people, puppies born on the street, also afraid of everything. Dogs that no one will adopt. Dogs that will leave in the shelter forever. They might even be well there, spacious kennel and food every day but also a substantial monthly cost on the shelter that does not get any subsidies – like private shelters in Portugal.
18 dogs to vaccinate annually, 18 dogs to neuter, 18 dogs to feed. To treat if any is sick.
They are now safe somewhere temporarily, so far 2 adults and 5 puppies were brought to the shelter, the others coming soon. In the shelter they are scared too.
The puppies are now 4 months old. They are big puppies. They are quite shy although very gentle. If they were quickly adopted, they would gain confidence in a home. If they stay in the shelter, they will grow, they will become even more shy and they will never find a home.
Conny is shy… But we hope she still has a chance…. She is gentle, friendly, good with other dogs. If she went to a home soon she would gain confidence.
