Joly had a happy life in a village since a puppy. Then his owners got old. The woman went to a nursing home. The man stayed a bit longer bit he got sick and had to go to the hospital for a prolonged treatment. The dog ended up homeless. How many stories like this we heard. The dog was brought to the shelter.
And he is a lovely, friendly, gentle old dog. Those make the best pets.
He gets along with everyone. And especially chicken and donkeys as he grew up among them. Often people ask if we have a dog that can live with chicken. This is not easy, most dogs would hunt them. But here is the one! Gentle with everyone. Friends of chicken.
We hope Joly can still find a lovely home for his retirement….

Dora’s owner died and she was brought to the shelter by the daughter of the owner.
Dora is 16 years old, she walks slowly, she has arthoris. She does not hear very well. She has a slight problem related to her heart and kidneys, normal for her age, but she needs to take heart medication and eat special food.
She is confused. At this age, uprooted from her home, brought to the shelter. How could they not keep it at home to let her live her last months of life peacefully. She is really no trouble.
She will die here.

Seven years ago Pirucas run away from home. He probably jumped the fence and went wandering. We think so.
A guy found him on the street. He worked for some factory, so he took the dog with him and put on the chain on the grounds of the factory.
Pirucas spent 7 years on the chain.
Recently the management of the company changed and they did not want the dogs anymore (there were more dogs there). So the dogs were brought to the shelter. Like we always do, we checked for the presence of the chips on the dogs and we found out that Pirucas had a chip! It was registered… We contacted his owner from whose house the disappeared 7 years ago.
If only the people that had him on the chain thought once about checking the chip! Like this the dog could do back home!
But no…. no happy ending. Pirucas’ owner was very surprised that her dog was found but her life changed and she cannot have him back. She took 10 days to find time to come and see him in the shelter. The dog did not recognise her. Better like this. Otherwise he would have been heartbroken. She signed the necessary documents to register the chip on the name of the shelter.
A wasted life… A dog that had a home did not have to spent 7 years on the chain…
He is old now, although he seems in good health, it is already an advanced age for a big bread dog. He walks well, he is quite active, he still likes running around and exploring. We think he does not hear well. Sometimes we call him and he does not react. But it would be expected at his age.
He is VERY gentle.
Maybe he can still experience love and care… Maybe someone can still offer him a home for the last year(s) of his life… All what happened to him is so unfair…
