Bianca: classic example of a Covid adoption

Information:

Name: Bianca

Gender: F

Breed: x Portuguese podengo

Age: d-o-b: September 2020

Size: small-medium (11kg, 40cm)

Others: dewormed, vaccinated, sterilised

Story, Personality, Others:

Bianca was adopted in June 2021, when people were staying at home during the pandemic and needed an excuse to be walking on the street. Having a dog was a good excuse to leave home legally and also a way to keep the children busy at home and not demanding permanent attention of the parents.

A family with 2 children came to adopt Bianca. We always want to trust the people adopt a dog for life but they obviously wanted a dog as long as the pandemic lasted.

Bianca was returned in October 2021, when people went back to work in their offices. Apparently she has too much energy, she needs to run. But they adopted a podengo cross of less than one year old, what did they expect?

Bianca is a very sweet dog. She loves human attention, she is gentle, cuddly and friendly. She is young and energetic so she would fit a family with active lifestyle. She is friendly with other dogs. She walks well on the leash.

Fabio: misunderstood puppy, he thought he was doing well

Information:

Name: Fabio

Gender: M

Age: d-o-b: 15 March 2021

Size: medium (16kg, 45cm)

Others: dewormed, vaccinated, castrated

Story, Personality, Others:

Fabio was found on the street as a puppy. Then he was rehomed, he went to a home where he spent 3 weeks but he was returned. He got very attached to his owners and thought he should defend them against everyone so he was barking at visitors that were coming to the house. He thought he was doing well… He is still a young dog so he can be educated to behave differently. And preferably he should go to a home with another dog to have an example how to behave.

Apart from this he is actually very gentle, he loves cuddles and belly rubs – just look at the movies. He walks well on the leash. He is social with other dogs, very friendly actually and playful. After 3 weeks in a home we expect him to be used to living in a home and be house clean.

Inga: such a suffered puppy, she deserves a happy life

Name: Inga

Gender: F

Age: d-o-b: 15 February 2021

Breed: x German shepherd

Size: will be medium (now 13kg, 45cm)

Others: dewormed, vaccinated, sterilised

Story, Personality, Others:

Little Inga was brought to us with her siblings and a few other dogs from a place where dogs were very neglected. It was someone´s yard, where a guy had dogs left to their own devices, not sterilised, so there were plenty of puppies, but not cared for, so many were sick. And hungry. He was not feeding them, they were skin and bones. The municipality acted upon complaints and brought 6 dogs, all they could catch, even if there were 16 all together, others were left behind because they were too scared and running away from people. Then the municipality brought them straight to the private shelter, not to the municipal pound, so they got rid of the responsibility and the cost as well because no financial help was given from their side for those dogs.

There were 5 puppies and one adult dog. The puppies were very sick. They had lots of internal parasites and tick fever. It took long time to treat them and the progress was slow. Two puppies died. Inga took time to recover and for long time she was tiny and skinny. While her brothers grew, she did not. Then on top of this she broke her leg (back right leg)…. she was operated. In fact she spent more time of her life in the vets then out!

Finally Inga recovered. She is finally healthy, eating well, she has grown, although not as much as her brothers, his fur is shiny. She is beautiful. She will not be a big dog because she was sick as a puppy, she did not grew when puppies grow.

Inga is extremely sweet and gentle. A bit shy with strangers but once she gains confidence she is just wonderful. She knows her name, she comes when called, she gives licks and kisses. She loves company of other dogs. In fact she is really dependant on their company so her future home should already have a dog.
